VAT

A new poll has revealed that businesses believe the cut in VAT, introduced by the government in an effort to stimulate consumer spending, has done little good.

As from 1 April 2009, new legislation will affect the way that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) conducts enquiries, visits and inspections.

Businesses are being reminded that the date by which they can claim a refund on past VAT payments is 31 March 2009.

Changes to EC Sales Lists, proposed from 1 January 2010, have now been crystallised following the EU Council’s adoption of Directive 2008/117/EC and Regulation (37/2009) on 16 December 2008.

Business which move goods between the UK and other EU Member States are required to submit supplementary declarations for statistical purposes under the Intrastat regime.
